At Steele Creek Soccer Club(SCAA) we are different, and we are proud to be different. We don’t let ego’s and opinions get in the way of providing a player centric program for the youth player. Our focus is specifically on the individual, where we aim to take them along a pathway to be a good person through learning about life skills and developing their soccer technique and intelligence.
Our program is not built on one individuals belief or childhood hobby come true, but from research and influences across a wide spectrum of organizations and disciplines. Our education spans across the world, taking in the culture and environment which some of the most successful clubs and organizations have been grounded in. The research that goes in to the decision making for program development includes publications from well-respected doctors in their field, and authors of some of the most important literature in human psychology, sports psychology, and technical development.
From our U4’s in the Recreation program, to U19’s in Competitive program, every age group has an age appropriate curriculum, which is appropriate to the needs of the characteristics of the players age, in a seasonal format organized by the playing season and phases. Our coaching process starts with the technical breakdown of the player mechanics, transitioned into the skill acquisition and performing the soccer specific action under the game situation through small sided games. There is no better teacher of the game than the game itself.
Steele Creek Soccer Club is a not for profit soccer club with most of its players residing in Steele Creek,Lake Wylie, Fort Mills, Tega Cay , and South Charlotte area. Players from all everywhere are welcome to participate in any of our programs.
For Kids of All Skill Levels: A common misconception is travel soccer is only for advanced players. This could not be further from the truth. Steele Creek Soccer Club is for boys and girls of all skill levels.
Certified Professional Trainers: Each travel team has their own professional trainer. Trainers set up and run all team practices and are present on all game days to coach. Kids will not have one coach running practices, and a different coach on game days.
All NCYSA Certified Coaches: SCAA encourages parent participation and there are several roles parents can fill to assist with their child's team, but we do only allow NCYSA Certified coaches to be trainers or coaches for our travel teams. We believe this philosophy helps reduce the "stress" involved with youth sports.
Teams determined by skill level: Our goal is to place players on teams with teammates of similar ability. Travel teams are then placed into divisions within the North Carolina Youth Soccer Leagues (NCYSA) where their opponents will be of the same skill level. We do our best to avoid creating teams where a few players are significantly more advanced than others on their team. We do this for the proper development and enjoyment of all players, so teams can develop together in a balanced way
Steele Creek Soccer Club offers several soccer programs including boys and girls teams at U3 and older, Spring Break and Summer Camps, Free Training Clinics, and Pre Travel Programs for 4-8 year olds.
While we coach the individual player to improve their soccer ability, life lessons through sports participation are incredibly important for the individual and is one of the most neglected areas in today’s youth sports environment of win at all costs and chasing the scholarship dream. One thing no one can guarantee is where a child will be at the age of adolescence whether physically, technically, or psychologically, but we can have a big influence on their social skills.
Steele Creek Soccer Club Long Term Development Plan
Steele Creek Soccer Club Long Term Development Plan sees the whole picture in youth sports development. Youth players need to have the freedom to play, the open mindset to learn and develop, and the passion to love the game.
Successful programs have a well-defined organizational structure, and playing programs run using the most up to date research in youth development and soccer coaching methodology.
All players are separated by age group following the 2019 USSF mandates of birth year Matrix registrations, i.e.. Born 2010. The next step is to place all players in playing groups of similar ability, this allows the individual player to participate in a group where they can be challenged, experience mistakes and errors in performance to learn from, and to be able to find success.
Focus on Development
The long-term development plan identifies five areas for player development – technical, tactical, social, psychological and physical. The overall development of a player creates the 360 player. The coaching curriculum from U4 to U19 follows progressions on the importance of each stage of development, from more importance placed on motor skill and social development, through technical work in the middle ages, and tactical practices at the older ages and later stages of development.
The modern soccer landscape is a significant shift from traditional structures and theories. We at Steele Creek Soccer Club want to support the understanding of the new research in youth sports and soccer development. Amount of Practice
10,000 hours has been the golden target for reaching elite performance, roughly 3 hours a day for 10 years. However, while greater exposure to practice does help increase the rate of development, more importantly is the quality of practice. Practice will make permanent, with repetition thickening the myelin sheath of the nerve cells, the process of increasing the message from the brain to the action movements.
Quality is far better than quantity, excessive tournament play, and vast amounts of fitness without a ball is detrimental to the player and increases the incidence of injury.
