RECREATIONAL SOCCER- FAQ

What age group/league should I sign my child up for?
Soccer divisions are now based off birth year.  Find the year your child was born and that is the group that you need to sign them up for.

What is included in the SCAA recreational soccer program?

Every player in our program has at least 1 night of activities, either team practices or skills training depending on the age group.  The games are usually played on weekends, U9 and above may have a weeknight game.  U7 co-ed play all games on Saturdays at Steele Creek while the U9 and older groups play half their games at Steele Creek and half at nearby fields.  The soccer fees include the training, full uniforms (jerseys, shorts, socks), referee fees and NCYSA registration.

When are practices and training?

Practices and training are on weeknights after 5:00.  The nights/times of practices are set by the volunteer coaches, once the teams are formed.  The Rush skills training schedule is set up by the trainers, once registrations is completed.  We will try to honor practice night requests but the schedule will be determined by the volunteer coaches and age groups.

What does the player need to play soccer?

Each player needs cleats, shin guards and a ball.  The player should bring the ball to every practice.

Soccer ball = Little Kickers & U7 - size 3

U9 & up size 4

When does the season start and how long does it go?

The spring season starts in March and the Fall season starts in September.  The exact dates are determined each year as holiday and school calendars are taken into consideration.  The entire season will last between 8-10 weeks with spring ending before school is out for summer and the fall ending before Thanksgiving.

What is the cost for the SCAA recreational soccer program?

There is an annual family membership fee that must be paid each calendar year of $75.  This is paid by family, not player.  The sports fee per player for soccer are listed below:

Little Kickers - $50.00

U7 Soccer - $75.00

U9 & up Soccer - $110.00

Can I volunteer to coach?  I didn’t play soccer

We are always looking for new coaches.  Soccer is an easy sport to coach because soccer is a player driven sport, unlike some of the other sports.  We have a coaches training session to familiarize the coaches with the soccer skills.  1 night a week of training is run by our professional skills trainer and the coaches simply assist and learn from the sessions.  SCAA provides each coach all the equipment needed- bag, ball, cones, pinnies, etc.  And as the coach, you can pick the team’s practice night and time.  Once you start coaching soccer, you’ll love it and understand why it’s called the beautiful game!
